A few years ago, we took a road trip from Chicago to St. Louis, where I had grown up, with some Bosnian friends. Our first stop was the Broadway Oyster Bar [one of my favorite bars on the planet], for a few drinks and some fried alligator. Later, our friends emailed Bosnian friends and relatives, saying that they had eaten alligator and were now true Americans.
